Pennsylvania Nonprofits: Don't Forget to File Your Decennial Report
Beginning January 15, 2021, the Pennsylvania Department of State will begin notifying all corporations, including nonprofit corporations, of their need to file a Decennial Report.
The report, available on the Department of State website, is required to notify the state of an entity’s continued existence and is filed every ten years during the years ending with the numeral “1.” These filings allow the state to identify business names that are no longer in use and to enable them to be reissued to another entity, should they be requested.
The current reports must be filed during the 2021 calendar year with the Department of State along with a $70 filing fee.
If you don’t receive a postcard from the Department of State notifying you that your organization is required to file the report, you will still be able to search a list on the department’s website after January 15, 2021. If you check the list and your organization is still uncertain, you can reach out to the Bureau’s customer service line at 717-787-1057.
It is important to file your Decennial Report in 2021. While your business entity continues to exist if you fail to make the filing, your name will become available to any requesting entity registering to do business in Pennsylvania during the delinquency period.
BBD would be happy to assist you in determining your need to file and assist in completing the form.
