A BBD Success Story: Greg Kieselowsky, Manager
Greg Kieselowsky is a manager in BBD’s Investment Management Group. He joined the firm as a staff accountant in 2004. In our interview with Greg, he shares tips on achieving career success at a young age.
BBD: Where did you go to school?
GLK: I went to Grace College in Wynonna Lake, Indiana.
BBD: Why did you choose a career in public accounting?
GLK: In college I wanted to differentiate myself somehow from just a regular business degree. My dad had a good friend who suggested that I go into accounting. He said that it was a good way to learn the different facets of business.
BBD: So how have you accomplished so much in your career in such a short period of time?
GLK: I guess part of it is just hard work, and I also asked a ton of questions. I wanted to get to the point where I didn’t need to ask a ton of questions. I did everything I could to learn everything I could. I guess the other part is being in the right place at the right time. We have grown and are continuing to grow so much.
BBD: What was the first thing that popped into your mind when you found out that you were being promoted to a manager well before your 30th birthday?
GLK: Finally! Just kidding. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting it. I thought it would come in time.
BBD: What has been the biggest challenge you have faced since becoming a manager?
GLK: I’d have to say managing my time. It is the biggest balancing act. I have learned you have to balance your work, while helping your staff manage their work, while also keeping up to the level of knowledge and resources that the partners expect. It takes a lot of work outside the day-to-day auditing.
BBD: What is your favorite part about BBD?
GLK: Definitely a mix between a relaxed environment and hard work. The partners trust me to get my work done. They don’t micromanage me. I have friends who work at other firms and they say that their partners are task masters. Here they let me work in a style in which I can get work done.
BBD: If you could give advice to someone who wanted to follow in your footsteps what would say?
GLK: Take the initiative. Learn from those around you, both positive and negative. Go above and beyond just what is expected. Have goals and do what you need to achieve them.
