Investment Management Group Audit Supervisor Featured in Pennsylvania CPA Journal

Jim Dembesky, an audit supervisor in our Investment Management Group, authored an article for the Fall 2017 issue of the Pennsylvania CPA Journal, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountant's (PICPA) quarterly magazine.
The article, titled Small and Midsize Firms Offer Large-Scale Opportunities, offers Jim's perspective on the advantages of working for a small or midsize CPA firm as opposed to a larger firm. Some of these advantages Jim details include earlier exposure to firm leadership, including direct access to partners; experience with many aspects of an audit or tax engagement, beyond audits of cash or payroll, for example; more rapid career advancement; and a more flexible and welcoming culture as a result of the familial nature of smaller firms.
Jim joined BBD in July 2014 after graduating from the University of Scranton in May of that year. Last month, he was promoted to audit supervisor, a position with greater responsibility as well as more opportunities to mentor newer firm members. "I have personally benefited from the smaller firm atmosphere at BBD and wrote my article from this experience," Jim said.
In the article's conclusion, Jim urges accounting majors looking for their first full-time position to keep an open mind. "Before you make the final decision, remind yourself that working for the best fit will likely set you up to achieve your own definition of success," he writes.
