Help Desk Associate

We are looking for a Level 1 Help Desk Associate.  This position would work directly under our Information Technology Director.  Qualified applicants should have a base knowledge of networking, Active Directory for Microsoft Server 2003 & 2008, SQL, Windows 7 & XP, Microsoft Office 2003, 2007, & 2010.  A+ certification strongly preferred.  This position would handle all Level 1 Help Desk needs for the firm.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 The Help Desk Associate will focus on providing technical assistance to all Firm users on Firm-supported computers, applications and platforms.

 Specific Duties:

 Provides technical assistance to all firm users by:

  • Troubleshooting problems and advising/taking the appropriate action.  Responding to requests for technical assistance in person, via phone, or remote technology.
  • Cleaning, installing and modifying operating systems, software programs and hardware
  • Diagnosing and resolving technical hardware and software issues
  • Researching questions using available information resources
  • Following standard help desk procedures, and interpret policies and procedures
  • Redirecting problems to appropriate resource
  • Staying current with systems information, changes and updates
  • Identifying and escalating situations requiring urgent attention

 Provides first line of response for firm users requiring assistance by:

  • Maintaining knowledge of PC Operating Systems
  • Serving as first point of contact for troubleshooting hardware/software PC and printer problems by telephone or remote control with users.  Talking the user through a series of steps to determine nature of problem.
  • Working in conjunction with the Information Technology Director to:
  • Support users’ Active Directory accounts, including Exchange 2007
  • Support users’ memberships to specific groups, and set up shared resources
  • Install, upgrade and configure network printing, software and file services
  • Assist with the direct support of copiers, printers, fax, postage machine and order maintenance support as needed

 Identifies Windows Errors by:

  • Maintaining technical understanding of system “.ini” files or system “registry” to fix any conflicts with hardware or software
  • Researching “white papers” and support forums on the internet to find resolutions
  • Consulting with the I.T. Director

 Assists in the implementation of new technologies by:

  • Setting up new firm computers by installing software and other peripherals
  • Helping to establish connections to network technology, including wireless connectivity
  • Testing computer components as needed
  • Conferring with Security and Systems Administrator, and peers as required or needed

 Maintains Professional And Technical Knowledge by:

  • Attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal contacts; participating in professional societies; research
